چکیده
A multi-longitudinal-mode fiber ring laser sensor is firstly proposed and experimentally demonstrated. Beat frequencies between any two longitudinal modes are used as sensing signal. The core component of the system is a multi-longitudinal-mode fiber ring cavity laser sensor based on beat frequency demodulation method. The theory of beat signal generation and strain measurement are discussed in detail. The beat frequency shift caused by the strain applied on the cavity is demodulated using spectrum analyze. Experimental results shown the strain accuracy of the laser sensor is 1.3 με and the resolution of the strain is 1.6 kHz/με at measuring frequency of 2019 MHz. The noise effect of self-heating in the cavity is 0.149 kHz/mW. The SNR of the sensor system is higher than 61 dB. The simple laser sensor has ultra-stable signal. The usage of only one fiber laser and one demodulation system makes the system simple, cost-effective and portable. Copyright © 2014 IFSA Publishing, S. L.

A brief historical narrative of the study of grating solitons in fiber Bragg grating is presented from the late 1970’s up to now. The formation of photogeneration gratings in optical fiber by sustained exposure of the core to the interference pattern produced by oppositely propagating modes of argon-ion laser radiation was first reported in 1978. One important nonlinear application of fiber Bra...

An ultra-high sensitive strain sensor is proposed. The sensing head, based on the post-processing of a fiber Bragg grating, is used to perform passive and active strain measurements. Both wavelength and full width half maximum dependences with the applied strain are studied for the passive sensor, where maximum sensitivities of 104.1 pm/με and 61.6 pm/με are respectively obtained. When combinin...

A novel fiber-optic twist sensor based on a dual-polarization distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) fiber grating laser is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. By beating the signal between the two polarizations of the laser which operates at 1543.154 nm, a signal of 30.78 MHz in frequency domain is observed. The twist will change the fiber birefringence, and resulting in the beat frequency va...
